YMCA Northpoint Day Camp and Family Center
Greece, New York

YMCA NorthpointLarsen Engineers was responsible for all site development for the YMCA’s new day camp. The 48 acre camp includes an Aquatic Complex with locker room and pool, Programs Building, Climbing Tower, walking paths and play fields for 600 day campers. Larsen services included topographic survey and mapping, complete site design with all regulatory approvals and permitting including town planning and engineering, county DOT, county DOH, state DEC and federal USACE. Site design included site grading design, roadways and parking, walkways, storm water facilities, 7,500 gpd on-site wastewater disposal system and potable water systems with fire suppression. The Programs Building was converted from a non permitted horse barn that Larsen Engineers reverse engineered and designed building improvements to comply with NYSUBC that allowed the structure to be used for assembly of 640 day campers and YMCA members. Construction phase services were provided for site work and architectural work which started on January 2, 2005 and was completed with the opening of the camp on June 27, 2005.

 

 

 



Greenkill YMCA Lodge
Huguenot, New York 

The site development presented unique environmental challenges in addition to site development design. Approximately 12 acres of the site was formally used for disposal of construction and demolition material, a portion of the site was in the FEMA 100 year floodplain and Federal Wetlands were present.

 

YMCA GreenkillLarsen Engineers was responsible for site design and MEP services for the 5,500 SF lodge at the YMCA Greenkill camp site. Larsen also provided survey and mapping services for the new lodge site. Gold LEEDTM certification was obtained for the project; the design was based on obtaining maximum LEED points. Larsen Engineers was responsible for the following LEED design features: Subsurface storm water infiltration; and water conservation measures such as low-flow showers and sensor-controlled, low-flow faucets. Also, use of recycled material, such as recycled concrete, as select fill; and use of fly ash in concrete. Part of the mechanical systems work included on-demand hot water heaters; geothermal heat pumps (part of the geothermal loop); and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs). Other design work included: radiant floor heating; LED lights; soil insulation; passive cooling; solar orientation; and dual flush toilets.
