The Town of Williamson and Larsen Engineers are Honored that NYS DEC Awarded the Town of Williamson a 2015 Environmental Excellence Award!

November 2015

Larsen Engineers assisted the Town of Williamson in its journey toward becoming energy (electricity) independent and receiving New York State’s Environmental Excellence Award. DEC Acting Commissioner Basil Seggos said, “This year’s awards recognize innovative programs, smart business decisions and unique collaborative initiatives that improve New York’s environment and contribute to a stronger economy.”  The Town of Williamson has advanced renewable energy technologies and created “green-collar” jobs, which demonstrates an outstanding commitment to environmental excellence and sets an extraordinary benchmark for other New York municipalities.

Larsen Engineers provided engineering and planning services to Williamson along their path to energy (electricity) independence. The journey began with a Strategic Community Plan, which lead to the following:

·      Greening of the wastewater treatment plant which included rainwater harvesting, a green roof, solar power, energy efficient lighting, and an energy efficient boiler—funded by an EFC ARRA Green Innovation Grant.

·      Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power installed at the Town Complex, supplying 20% of the electricity used by the Town Complexfunded through NYSERDA and ARRA assistance.

·      A large solar PV 1.5MW project installed on top of Williamson’s closed Pound Rd. Landfill. This solar PV system supplies enough electricity to meet all of the current electrical demand of the Town’s municipal facilitiesfunded by the NY-Sun Initiative Program, which is run by NYSERDA.

For additional information about steps toward making your municipality energy (electricity) independent, please contact Ram Shrivastava, President of Larsen Engineers at 585-272-7310 or ram@larsen-engineers.com
